Irritability and Working

For years my family has complained about my irritability when working. They don’t like it when I’m working at home when they are home because all they get are short snappy responses when they talk to me. I like the theory that this article proposes:

Palm Pre Abuse

Podcasts for Plodding

I used to listen to music when I ran but over the past couple of years, I’ve completely switched over to listening to Podcasts. I know, incredibly geeky and definitely has no rhythm for running. The Podcasts I listen to do keep me entertained and I don’t have to try to find “energetic” Podcasts that keep my pace up like I did with music.

The Podcasts that I listen to are:

  • The Java Posse. These guys are great, they love tools (for writing software) and are very smart. The emphasis here is on Java but lately, they’ve been focusing on some of the other languages that run on the JVM like Scala and Groovy.
  • Security Now. Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson riff on the security issues of the day. Lots of good stuff but you have to wade through a few commercials they read.
  • MacBreak Weekly. Leo Laporte and a variety of hosts talk about themselves and their various Apple products. This is a pretty lightweight Podcast, it’s like brain candy if you are a Mac fan.

I also keep a few episodes of Car Talk on my Palm Pre but I rarely have time to listen to them before I update the others. I used to listen to Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me but again, I didn’t have time so I stopped downloading it.

Opting Out of Google

Google Opt Out Feature Lets Users Protect Privacy By Moving To Remote Village

Our photo site (http://photos.meagherfamily.org) is back online after being down for some months while I studiously ignored the configuration issues it had. While I was fixing the configuration issues, I upgraded to the newest version of the Gallery2 sofware (which can be found here), it has a cool new slideshow feature so be sure to check it out. There aren’t any new pictures as of yet but there will be soon…
